16 Run 1st Lifts Cubs Over Cardinals

The Cubs scored 8 runs before the first out was recorded and ended the first inning with a 16-0 lead over the Cardinals. The Cubs extended their lead to 24-0 after 3 innings and saw the Cardinals push 2 runs across in the top of the 4th to avoid a shut out before the game ended under the mercy rule. Dave Pearce lead the Cubs with 4 hits, 3 runs, and 5 RBI’s. Jason Conklin added 3 hits and scored 4 runs with 2 RBI’s. Charly Parsons and Dave Budnick each had 2 hits for the Cardinals.
